On Saturday, 16th December at the Vitale Barberis Canonico Spa Pratrivero site, the award ceremony of five scholarships and four study grants took place for nine students who had achieved particularly excellent academic results.

The innovation of 2023 was the introduction of study grants, with an invitation aimed exclusively at the children of company workers, referring to the generality of high-school diplomas and subsequent degree courses, according to meritocratic criteria included in a new and different regulation.

Since 2017, the competition for the scholarships, which was established in 2003, has included not only the children of company employees, but all students from the Biellese and Valsesia regions who do exceptionally well in their high-school diplomas and their successive university courses, achieving high grades in specifically scientific and mathematical fields (engineering, mathematics, physics, etc.).

Vitale Barberis Canonico has the wish to reward excellent scholastic results and at the same time, give these deserving young people of our region and our company (who are seen as members of one big family) the possibility of continuing with their studies.

The eminent guest at the event was the Minister for the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, who, in his speech to the young students, confirmed the importance of building one’s educational, personal and career path, based on knowledge and how to use the aid of fundamental, external “partners” such as their families in terms of their own values and principles, and of companies such as Vitale Barberis Canonico that demonstrate particular sensibility in terms of the area and the community and their wish to contribute to the growth of future generations. He also referred to the fact that it is precisely this which means understanding sustainability, understanding people and the region, looking towards the future without fear and confronting change.

The Managing Director of Vitale Barberis Canonico, Alessandro Barberis Canonico, illustrated how this initiative, now in its 20th edition with 97 active awards, wishes to assist the growth of talent in the area, giving them the resources to support them in their growth, first scholastic, then professional, and thus aiding future recruitment of talent.

Lucia Bianchi Maiocchi, Manager for Environment, Social and Corporate Governance, underlined how this should be a priority for companies, because supporting the growth and culture of these young people can be nothing other than beneficial for everything in our region, and for the environmental ecosystem and the people who we would like to flourish and plan for the future, here in Valdilana and in the Biellese region. Initiatives such as this feed our MINDS with commitment and passion, our HEARTS through the emotions of these young people and their families, and our HANDS with an interweaving of competency and community.

This idea was emphasised by the Manager of Human Resources, Stefano D’Agostin, as no plans for the upcoming generations can be made without a real job and without thinking of the future.
