Vitale Barberis Canonico confirms its commitment to protecting the environment by taking another important step along its sustainability path. In 2021 Vitale Barberis Canonico resolved to exclusively use climate-neutral gas. This means that the company offsets the amount of CO2 emitted by the use of methane during the production process, by investing in projects aimed at producing sustainable and renewable energy.

Specifically, Vitale Barberis Canonico’s investment intends to finance the Barra Grande hydroelectric plant, which is situated in Southern Brazil, between the states of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. The project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by avoiding energy production based on fossil fuels in countries like Brazil, where population growth and economic development drive an ever-increasing demand for electricity.

As its partner, Vitale Barberis Canonico has selected Green Gas from the energy provider Alperia, one of the most prominent companies in the national green sector; the objective of this investment is the certified guarantee of concrete and effective projects to protect the environment. Alperia’s Green Gas is certified on an annual basis by TÜV NORTH, an independent industry certification body, and complies with the Voluntary Carbon Standard, one of the most widespread standards, which meets the strict Kyoto Protocol criteria.

The choice of climate-neutral gas adds to the supply of electricity from renewable sources that Vitale Barberis Canonico has been purchasing since 2019. The purchase of hydroelectric power in 2021 made it possible to prevent as many as 13 million kilos of CO2 being emitted into the environment, while a total of 4.7 million kilos of CO2 emissions from natural gas have been offset.
