Weaving the Notes

On the occasion of Piano City Milano 2024, on Saturday, 18th May in the showroom at Via Solferino 23, Vitale Barberis Canonico is hosting 3 concerts entitled Weaving the Notes. Yarns and notes interweaving in a musical symphony, an artistic interpretation of fabrics and expression of craftsmanship. The event is organised in collaboration with De Amicis Music School, Griffa & Figli and with the participation of Steinway & Sons.

The programme includes:

11.00 o’clock – PIANO STUDENTS OF THE DE AMICIS MUSIC SCHOOL
The De Amicis Music School is a music school for adults and young people of all ages with programmes for the teaching of classical and modern music, both for individuals and groups. The school is part of a group established in 1923 with the intention of providing young people with instruction, culture and a sense of civic duty.

2.00 p.m. – NICCOLÒ CATTANEO (Jazz concert for piano soloist)
Niccolò Catteneo, Milan pianist and organist, graduated magna cum laude from the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He has to his credit important collaborations with many other important Italian jazz musicians both in the studio and at important jazz festivals and national clubs, amongst these Umbria Jazz, Clusone Jazz, Blue Note Milan. He has played with artists such as: Eliot Zigmund, Hectro Costita, Francesco Cafiso, Paul Jeffrey. Fabrizio Bosso, Marco Tamburini, Giovanni Amato, Max Ionata, Giggi Cifarelli, Stefano Bagnoli, Dino Betti van der Noot, Mauro Negri, Francesco Bearzatti, Walter Calloni, Nicola Angelucci, Gianni Cazzola, Aida Cooper and many others. He has also participated in numerous recordings.

6.00 p.m. – JAY CHOE & DEUG-YUN KIM (Piano concerto for 4 hands)
Jay Choe was born in Seoul where she graduated from Seoul Arts High School. She then moved to Canada where she graduated from the University of Toronto under Marietta Orlov, Anton Kuerti and, for chamber music, Lorand Fenyves. Subsequently she obtained a Masters in pianoforte at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany under Robert Levin and Tibor Szàsz. She played at the Orford Music Festival in Quebec, the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, the National Theater, the Sejong Cultural Center, the Mun-Wha Music Hall and the international Chang-Mu festival in Seoul. She has come first in various prestigious international competitions. Since 1997, she has lived in Milan, where she has continued her educational activities, collaborating with teachers Lazar Berman and Fausto Zadra, and playing concerts. Currently she is the Director of the De Amicis Music School

Deug-Yun Kim, South Korean pianist, studied with Tibor Hazay at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, and after graduating completed the post-graduate course under Amadeus Webersinke. Subsequenly, she attended the Ècole de Musique Alfred Cortot in Paris, obtaining the “Diplome Supérieure d’Execution”. During her career, she has attended master classes with Rudolf Meister, Peter Feuchtwanger and Vladimir Krainjev, as well as with Paul Badura-Skoda and Lazar Berman. She gave her first recital as a solo pianist at the age of 14, followed by other solo appearances in various European cities. She has won important international prizes such as the first prize at the “Concorso Internazionale Pescara Musica” in Italy. She taught at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg and currently teaches at the Klavier-Institut in Basel.
