Knowing how to recognize and identify the best raw materials requires passion and careful attention, often the result of many years of experience in the field. For this reason, Vitale Barberis Canonico adds a margin to prices based on international market quotes that takes into consideration not only production costs, but pays the breeder an extra sum to compensate him or her for the commitment they’ve made to obtaining the highest quality.
Training means providing information and support to face a complex market. This is why Vitale Barberis Canonico’s experts and wool classers share over 350 years of company techniques and knowledge obtained in the field with breeder members of our club. Training also means dialogue and reciprocal exchanges established in the pursuit of excellence and respect for the environment.
Over the past century, Vitale Barberis Canonico has purchased superfine wools from thousands of the most virtuous farms, paying close attention to continuous quality improvement. Today the company has established a loyalty program for the most virtuous breeders, formally recognizing them as members of a community based on knowledge, exchange and growth in order to further consolidate our relationship over time.
The Wool Excellence Club allows Vitale Barberis Canonico to share and valorize ethical practices for breeding, raising and shearing sheep. The company firmly believes that the concept of sustainability is synonymous with responsibility: for people, the territory and all the goods the land is capable of producing.
Vitale Barberis Canonico founded the Wool Excellence Award in 2014 in order to reward the farm which distinguishes itself in the production of wool while paying maximum attention to the well-being of their animals. All Australian producers who have supplied Vitale Barberis Canonico with their wool during the sales season (1st July – 30th June) of the year in question may take part. The Wool Excellence Award is also designed to promote promoting the production of Superfine Saxon Merino wool while applying the most appropriate practices for the well-being of the sheep and the safeguarding of the environment.
The “Vitale Barberis Canonico Wool Excellence Award” was awarded on 11th November 2023 to the Taylor family for their work in the breeding of Saxon Merino in the Winton area. The award ceremony took place in Newcastle, New South Wales during a special evening dedicated to the member of the Wool Excellence Club.
